ELECTRIC BOOGALOO: Tobe Hooper's SPIDER-MAN???

Decades before Sam Raimi brought Spider-Man to the big screen, the rights to Peter Parker and his alter-ego, Spider-Man were purchased by Cannon Films. The rights were purchased on the title alone, as neither Golan nor Globus knew about the comic book. Their intention was to make a film about a creature who was half-man and half-spider. They then hired Tobe Hooper, the director of Texas Chainsaw Massacre to direct.

It's unclear at what point their hopes of making a creature feature were dashed but I would assume Stan Lee might have had something to do with it. After finding out what Spider-Man ACTUALLY was, Cannon Films released the ad below to entice investors to invest in the film. It's probably for the best that the film was never made, but at the same time, I reeeeally wish it had been.
